The Wyatt family death refers to the mysterious deaths of members of the Wyatt family, a prominent Southern family from Kentucky, in the mid-19th century. The family was well-known for its wealth and political influence, but tragedy struck in the years leading up to the Civil War.
In 1852, Benjamin Wyatt, the patriarch of the family, died suddenly, followed by his wife later that year. Their son William Henry Wyatt died in 1856 under similarly mysterious circumstances, which left the family fortune in the hands of his brother-in-law, Squire J. H. Colman.
Colman was later implicated in the deaths of several other members of the family, including William's sister Sarah, her husband, and two of their children. He was suspected of poisoning them to gain control of the Wyatt family estate. However, Colman was never convicted and the exact cause of death for the members of the Wyatt family remains a mystery.
